I want you to realize not only the importance of queer curricula, but the ease with which you may incorporate it into an already established curriculum and/or implement it on your own. I hope you find this curriculum unrestricted, flexible, and critical.
The explorations are aimed toward promoting social justice through identity awareness and exploration. The explorers, or performers of this curriculum, may include educators, self-directed learners, parents, community members, or anyone interested in exploring identity and identity awareness as a means of promoting social justice.
Explorers will:
Queering, or to queer, is to take action against the normative and heteronormative status quo. Heteronormativity dictates that being cisgender and heterosexual are the norm while it polices all other gender identities and sexual orientations. Thus, queer curriculum provokes critical questioning, critical reflection, and acting toward, the (de)construction of societal norms, identities, and ways of learning.
