First page of Examining Political Perspectives in Mathematics Education

After having seen her name in many papers in prominent mathematics education publications, the time had come to meet Eva Jablonka in person. For me (Paola), it was a late January evening in 2008, at the Swedish Mathematics Education Research Conference in frozen Stockholm. Jablonka had just accepted a professor’s position at Luleå University; she was to meet the Swedish research community at the conference. It took a few sentences and a couple of cocktails before I was in the middle of a quite deep, critical—but at the same time sharply humorours—conversation with Jablonka. From our common interest in critical readings of mathematics education, to a shared experience of being a foreigner in Scandinavia, many topics have been good excuses to spend precious (short but quite exciting) time together since then.
