This article examines how teachers in Maine meaningfully infuse art and Native American epistemologies into their practice through visual arts and writing across the curricula. Teachers realized that writing deepens and enhances the practice of noticing and describing, both in visual arts and in culture-based curricula; and just as making art can promote critical thinking and encourage intellectual curiosity, the inclusion of writing similarly promotes exploration and risk-taking, and the appreciation of multiple perspectives.
