More than 10 years have passed since a critical tipping point morphed the internet from primarily a read-only environment to an online community. Today people interact with other people through digital tools, a massive amount of collaboration takes place online, and content is continually mixed and remixed. This chapter argues that for educators therefore a new conception of information and communication technology (ICT) literacy is needed, which we call “learning in digital networks.” The chapter also discusses how effective assessment tasks can be selected and designed to meet the measurement requirements of the new construct, and some examples are shared.
