While there is a plethora of public school finance research available, there is a dearth of research which addresses Catholic school finance. This chapter includes reviews of some of the available studies completed by individual researchers, the National Catholic Educational Association (NCEA), as well as the National Center for Educational Statistics (NCES).
The study of school finance generally includes three major areas: revenue sources, allocation strategies, and expenditure patterns. The study of revenue sources includes the origins of the incoming dollars and addresses such questions as: From where does the money come? What proportion of the money comes from each source? How stable is each source? What impact does the source have on dioceses, communities, parishes, schools, and families?
