We briefly explored ‘digital trust’ in Chapter 3. In this chapter, we expand this discussion further by exploring the role of technological trust and dignity in a techno-society.
The two key questions that we explore and consider here are – firstly, what are the defining characteristics of technological trust and dignity? and, secondly, how do we action and sustain dignity in technology?
To get you to begin to think about the issue of technological trust we discussed with you in Chapter 1, consider the findings from a survey by Progress (2023), which indicate that 65% of respondents believe that there is currently data bias in their organisation. It also found that almost 80% of businesses and IT decision-makers believe bias will become a bigger concern as artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) increases.
