SIDS encompass a diverse group of 58 countries and territories, all sharing a set of common challenges related to their small size, geographic isolation, limited resources, and vulnerability to the impacts of climate change (Tambunan, 2009; UN-OHRLLS, 2021). Situated primarily in the Caribbean, Pacific, and Atlantic Oceans, SIDS are heavily reliant on industries such as tourism, fishing, and agriculture, which makes their economies particularly sensitive to external economic and environmental disruptions (Nurse et al., 2014). These disruptions include natural disasters like hurricanes, flooding, and droughts whose intensity is heightened by climate change, as well as shifts in global commodity prices and the effects of international trade.
