One finding that permeates the research on academic integrity is the importance of education in decreasing instances of misconduct as it has the advantage of helping students to understand the importance of integrity and the consequences of misconduct (Sbaffi & Zhao, 2022; Welsh-Unwala, 2019; Sefcik et al., 2020; Hughes & Eaton, 2022). Education also focusses attention on integrity and misconduct within an institution helping students to understand that these institutions value integrity and will not tolerate misconduct. Bertram Gallant (2011) however notes,
Education for academic integrity for both staff and students is given prominence in the literature, and it is one of the distinguishing features between holistic and punitive approaches to academic integrity. This chapter presents and discusses data from Subscales 5 (Education for Students), 6 (Education for Academics/Faculty and Administrative Staff) and 7 (Curricula Information).
