The key contribution and value of this study were the conceptualisation and validation of sustainable maintenance strategies for government office buildings in emerging economies. The study conceptualised existing strategies through the review of literature and validated the findings of literature review using the Delphi study. There were six validated sustainable maintenance strategies. The strategies comprised of building maintenance policy, resource management strategy, maintenance task execution and control, continuous performance improvement, stakeholder coordination and employee coordination. The study asserts that these strategies significantly influence sustainable maintenance including improvement of the existing processes employed for the functionality of government office buildings.

The originality of this study lies in the combination of different strategies to predict sustainable maintenance for government office buildings in emerging economies. The literature findings in relation to maintenance studies revealed that there was a lack of studies that conceptualised and validated constructs informing sustainable maintenance in the manner that this study has done for government office buildings in emerging economies. It is also critical to highlight that the identified constructs were validated using measurement indicators. Each construct was not measured by not less than five indicators. Furthermore, from the identified constructs, key maintenance strategy outcome features could also be established to measure the success of sustainable maintenance for government office buildings in emerging economies.
