The objective of this paper is to investigate firmly whether or not it is possible to use melting slag from municipal solid waste (MSW slag) as fine aggregate and admixture for concrete. In this paper four kinds of MSW slag were examined, as a result, the following have been clarified: (i) all kinds of the MSW slag had excellent physical and chemical properties as fine aggregate for concrete; (ii) almost all of the MSW slag elutes hardly any heavy metals; (iii) the strength of concrete using MSW slag aggregate was equal to, or higher than, river sand concrete strength; (iv) in a high replacement ratio of slag, the freeze-thaw resistance of concrete with MSW slag aggregate was reduced due to the high amount of bleeding; (v) MSW slag powder made by the coke-bed melting process had similar characteristics to the blast-furnace slag powder; for example, these two powders were similar in flow value, soundness, setting time, strength, and freeze-thaw resistance.
