How should we clarify and discuss our responsibilities for Holocaust education? As educators using guidance from leaders in Holocaust education, we should provide students with information that is well defined, contextualized, individualized, age appropriate, and culturally appropriate (ADL, USC Shoah Foundation, & Yad Vashem, 2014). We should create supportive and safe learning environments that allow complex answers and which foster empathy. In addition, we should regularly reflect upon our perspectives and our objectives. In this chapter, I suggest that we carefully emphasize humanity and dignity in our treatments of the people and groups who were persecuted and harmed during the Holocaust.
