The phenomena of adsorption of phosphate and ammonium ions onto the surface of ice crystals were experimentally investigated. The adsorption experiments were performed by forming spherically-shaped ice particles and by immersing them into a solution containing phosphate and ammonium ions in a solution with a temperature range of 0 to 0.6°C. It was discovered that phosphate and ammonium ions were adsorbed onto the ice surface immediately after the immersion. The adsorption phenomena of the ions on the ice surface were of the Langmuir adsorption type. The inclusion and dissolution behaviour of the ion into, or out of, the ice spheres are also discussed in connection with the adsorption phenomena.
