This part is focussed on linking innovation-supportive leadership practices to the organisational innovation aspects. The focus is on addressing the organisation’s vision for the future and innovation strategy and, derived from this, which leadership practices and concepts, which cultural and structural interventions effectively support the respective innovation strategy. Innovation-supporting cultural and structural conditions include, in particular, institutionalised freedom, organisational slack, which provides room for experimenting with new ideas, but also ways in which these areas of freedom contribute to the implementation of the business and innovation strategy in the long term. Structures that promote innovation serve both exploitation and exploration and therefore require an ambidextrous leadership approach, that is both a transformational process and mindset change.
