Piezocone tests have been used to detect silty layers in London Clay and to obtain consolidation and drainage characteristics for use in the design of a deep basement in Kingston Upon Thames. The data is used to correlate with strength parameters. An estimate of the state of stress in the ground from the cone resistance is attempted.
