Nowadays, there is a considerable interest in FRP (fibre reinforced polymer) reinforcement for building construction. Especially, the use of FRP for externally bonded reinforcement (EBR) to repair and strengthen existing structures is becoming more and more established worldwide. Since first applications in the late 1980s, the commercial use of externally bonded FRP reinforcement (FRP EBR) is currently increasing exponentially in many countries. Nevertheless, there is still a lack of design guidelines concerning this technique. Activities to develop design guidelines by the EBR working group of fib (International Federation for Structural Concrete) Task Group 9.3 are reported here. A fib Bulletin on this subject is scheduled for the summer of 2001.
