This list of addresses was compiled using data derived from the royal commission on historical manuscripts, record repositories in great britain, 11 edition, 1999, personal notification of changes by the staff of the national archives of the uk, and up to date data on their internet gateway called archon. the new body was created by a merger (under a single commissioner) of the public record office, which holds the government's own archives with the royal commission on historical manuscripts (rchm). as from 1st april 2003 the commission brought to the new body its two registers; the national register of archives (nra ) as the central register of data about the nature and location of historical documents outside the public records; and the manorial documents register. th e nr a represents a huge catalogue of holdings built up since the commission's foundation in 1869 including data from county record offices, museums, universities, libraries, businesses, societies and even individuals. since 1998 it has been on the internet at www.hmc.gov.uk/nra it will be accessible from 2004 at the public record office, ruskin avenue, kew, TW94DU.
