The turbine generators for the Severn Barrage Project have been designed to the level of detail necessary for the realistic costing and planning of manufacture. The machine is a single regulated bulb turbine generator with a 9.0 m diameter variable pitch turbine runner. The design is based on conventional low head hydro practice but has special features to meet the constructional requirements of a single piece installation and the operational requirement of flood pumping.
