Summing up at an international meeting is a twoedged sword. One is proud to bse asked but, as the time approaches, the magnitude of the task becomes daunting. This is particularly true of a conference with joint sessions, and one in which there is such a wide diversity of papers and technical notes. It would be easy enough to present a 20th paper or to summarize each of the papers presented. However, this is not my task and what I shall do is draw together my perception of what were the more important threads that have run through the meeting.
