Influence of Calcium Nitrite corrosion inhibitor on the carbonation of mortar mixtures is experimentally investigated in this research. Seven mortar mixtures were produced with the use of portland and blended cements and cured in a room with relative humidity 50–65% and temperature 18–23 °C. Carbonation as well as weight loss measurements of the embedded steel reinforcement were taken at the ages of one and two years. Results indicate that addition of calcium nitrite reduces the carbonation depth of mortars and the gravimetric weight loss of the steel up to 50%.
