Stonecutters Bridge in Hong Kong, across Rambler Channel at the entrance to Kwai Chung Container Port, will become one of the longest cable-stayed bridges in the world. Total length of the bridge is 1596m. The most prominent feature of the bridge is the two single tapered cylindrical towers each 295m tall. These support a high level road deck providing 73.5m navigation headroom to the busy container port. The towers stand on shore. The 1018m main span is in steel, while the back spans on each side are in concrete.

This paper describes the development from the initial design for the towers at Reference Scheme to the final configuration, and the detailed design and construction of the final tower including its foundation.
