Commenting from the outside is always a hazardous business since it contains multiple risks such as blind spots, oversimplifications, and misreading. This essay is no exception but nevertheless provides three outside observations, unequal in importance, about the current state of affairs in global leadership research. In the first and most extensive observation, I outline valuable conceptual and theoretical ideas in my areas of expertise with potential value for global leadership research. The second observation briefly addresses what global leadership research can contribute to other areas of management studies. A short personal observation concludes this essay in the form of a coda.
