At this time, almost eight years to the day from when construction started in August 1980, two power stations are nearing completion. The first reactors on both stations are now proceeding steadily to full load and it appears from what we have heard from this conference that the performance will be at least in line with the original expectation and that operation is likely to be reliable.

These achievements represent a considerable improvement on anything that has gone before in the construction of nuclear power stations of this size in the UK.

All the people who have stood here for the past two days putting on record how it has been done are the leaders of the successful project teams. They should be proud that they, working together, have restored the credibility of the nuclear industry.
