First page of Positioning for Success: A Rose by Any Other Name

If you are reading this chapter, congratulations. The only person who can position you for success in your career is you. It is easy to have a mediocre information professional experience and shirk responsibility and accountability. Regardless of where you are in your career or studies, you have the chance to challenge yourself. While it’s likely that you have had experiences working in a special library or corporate information center setting or you are intending to do so, relating to thoughts in this chapter does not assume specific prerequisites or backgrounds.

You should always position yourself for success, whether it’s during your first internship, when you are recruited for a position, or as a candidate for a library management position. Positioning yourself for success should infuse your career and help you gain confidence about your own value as an information professional. You should consider yourself a leader and know how to articulate what you do in plain English without relying on library jargon.
