Every one of our CEGB stations has had a contingency loss of about one year because some new item did not work as planned. I would like us to return to some of the conservatism of the electricity supply industry and not introduce a change in component design until it has been proven. Designers and contractors always seem to be introducing changes which, for the sake of small economic savings, have not been tested at full size and under full operating conditions. The operator then has to lose a year's output when the changes do not work.
