Chapter 2: Scholarly Metrics at NCAR

As an R&D laboratory, NCAR produces hundreds of peer-reviewed publications annually, and there is vigorous interest in understanding those publications against the landscape of scholarly contribution to their respective fields. The NCAR Library in collaboration with other management entities at the organization has led efforts to develop scholarly metrics to track, visualize, and explore the publication record of the organization. This chapter will describe the scholarly metrics efforts at NCAR, with focus on the origins, objectives, and outcomes of institutional scholarly metrics as well as its future goals.
