Chapter 17: Why the Need for Interdisciplinarity to Explain the Struggles and Spaces for the Inclusion of Migrations and Diasporas?

As the final thoughts for this book are being written, the world is experiencing yet another dramatic humanitarian crisis regarding forced migration. According to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNCHR), there are more than 7 million Ukrainians that have fled from what is the worst armed conflict in Europe since World War II since the Russian invasion of Ukraine launched on 24 February 2022.¹ European nations, Canada and the United States have opened their doors without hesitation, which is the right thing to do from a humanitarian standpoint and a legal one.² It is an example of inclusiveness not seen in many decades. With these numbers added to the millions fleeing from the Global South, we are witnessing the largest forced displacement in the twenty-first century, reaching 100 million.³
