Mr R. WOOLDRIGE (Paper 40): The site of a dam that was installed in the Democratic Republic of the Sudan in 1978, was chosen by the Rural Water Corporation, near Port Sudan where Khor Arba'at supplied potable water for the port. Engineers lived on the site who looked after the dam and collected data on its performance.

The design height of the dam was 1 m and the average crest height across the channel was 0.75 m. It was important that the ground drains were not covered by the dam fabric because they removed seepage water from beneath the apron.
