Chapter 15: Learning Economics. Discovering Geoff Hodgson

I started to study economics in the early 1980s and I was totally ignorant of what economics was about. A blank page. So, the first courses in economics I received were crucial. Some of them more than others actually. I was then fascinated by mathematical economics – a way of doing economics that has not much to do with economics but that was nonetheless attractive because of its rigor, its beauty. I was also very much interested in macroeconomics – growth economics, the models of Domar, Harrod and others – simple but as interesting as Walras’s work. But, above all, what impressed me the most was microeconomics. Not the standard microeconomic analyses of consumer behavior or market organization. But a form of microeconomics that was then rather new.
