First page of Transport-Environment Issues and Countermeasures in Various Metropolises

We can explain transport-environmental countermeasures taken in cities by making an analogy with medical practice. Here, a metropolis can be compared to a patient (Nakamura, 1999). In medical science, casebooks related to the prescription and treatment of various diseases and injuries play an extremely important role in the actual medical service. The purpose of this chapter is to indicate the equivalent of casebooks in medical science for transport and environment issues in cities with limited space. Thus, while in the previous chapters, issues related to the ill-effects of transport on the environment in cities and their countermeasures have been described, in this chapter we will provide concrete examples of typical cities across the world.
