First page of The Organizational Architecture of the Multinational Corporation

Receiving the Eminent Scholar Award from the International Management Division is an unexpected honor, and I am most grateful to the division and to the two distinguished speakers who are providing commentaries, Sri Zaheer and Kaz Asakawa. An award like provides a somewhat unnerving opportunity to look back over past years in the field and to look forward to future challenges. I am going to take this opportunity to address some unfinished business – a theme that has run through much of my work in the IM field over the past three decades but which I feel I have not adequately tackled – and perhaps to persuade some of you to connect this to your own thinking and research. That theme is the organizational architecture of the multinational corporation.
