Section Three

Building on the previous two sections, this final section introduces examples of social problems in relation to food poverty and insecurity, underage alcohol use and children in care, illicit substance use and involvement in county lines/gangs. Each of the following four chapters will discuss, in turn, the nature, scale and then the extent of these social problems in relation to perceived risk and their impact on young people's educational participation, experiences and attainment. These chapters will provide more detailed explanations of the lived experiences of children and the issues they face in relation to these types of concerns. But also focus on the concepts of resilience, professional skills/interventions and protective school factors which can be used to reduce risks associated with different types of concerns.
