I was more than delighted when Lisa Keister asked me to co-edit this volume of Research in the Sociology of Work devoted to the impact and work of Randy Hodson – my dear friend, collaborator, co-editor, fishing buddy and poker pal, and someone that Lisa and I, as assistant professors ourselves, shared in common as a more senior departmental colleague and mentor. I am also grateful to the superb scholars represented in this volume, who have managed to somehow blend the personal and intellectual in a way that truly touches on the impact that Randy had and why he will missed.
