Closing address

"Every human activity involves a certain measure of risk and we can only evaluate any one risk by comparing it with the other risks to which we are all of us subjected.

By far the greatest risk which we run is that of dying from natural causes. If we consider the group of people whose ages lie between 10 and 45, we find that 150 out of every 100 000 die each year. Nearly 40 of these die deaths of violence; they are electrocuted in their homes, they are the victims of road accidents, they fall downstairs, or they commit suicide. The rest of the 150 die from disease or illness such as tuberculosis, pneumonia, malignant diseases and so on. Let us be quite clear that all risk is a matter of probability and that by far the worst risk is that of dying from natural causes.11
