A small calibrated chamber is carried out in modifying a classical triaxial cell. Footing penetration tests (monotonic or cyclic) presented in this paper are realised on Hostun sand samples, which are submitted initially to isotropic or deviatoric stress state. Tests are then analysed, compared with known analytical data on footing behaviour. The prediction of these tests with an elastoplastic model (introduced in a finite elements program) allowed us to check the validity of constitutive soil models on complex non homogeneous paths.
