I would like to introduce the first new port to open in the UK in the past 20 years.

It has shown how derelict industrial land can be reclaimed and find a vital new commercial use to strengthen the UK's port capacity rather than be lost to leisure and housing developments - however desirable these may be. Its design and construction has incorporated modern technology and it has been built to budget and programme. It is designed to be one of the most automated container terminals in the world and to lead the charge for greater port efficiency through the introduction of automation to what is essentially a repetitive lifting, sorting and loading operation.
