Intrusive effects of roads and traffic on vision are more complex than those on hearing and other senses for a number of reasons:
(a) there are no generally accepted measurement pro cedures;
(b) visual effect is normally due to the interaction of the roads and traffic with the setting;
(c) there are wider differences of opinion about visual matters than those about noise and smells; in par ticular some people like the view of traffic.
There are many visual aspects of roads and traffic that affect people:
(a) the appearance of traffic, which will vary with its composition its volume and its speed;
