With regard to the satellite pumping stations referred to in Paper 11
(a) what multiple of DWF is pumped on to the headworks from each station?
(b) how often are overflows from the pumping stations expected to operate?
(c) what measures are taken to limit the aesthetic impact of these storm discharges on the bathing beaches?
D. H. CRAWSHAW, North West Water, Warrington
The arrangements for disposal of storm water indicated in paragraph 18 of Paper 11 seem eminently logical and to display commonsense in view of the low numbers of bathers expected. However, the EEC Bathing Water Directive requires compliance on 95% of the samples taken, regardless of weather conditions, except in very exceptional circumstances.
