The specific example of Docklands shows that, for whatever mode, the London Regional Transport zonal fares system is designed for journeys to central London only. In time I believe it will have to be modified to take account of cross-London movement. In general there will be great pressure for innovative charging systems and I would see more emphasis being placed on fares structures and payment methods in future.
