“Why did I stay? The answer is easy. I didn't know he was abusing me. I was a very strong woman in love with a deeply troubled man, and I was the only person on Earth who could help Conor face his demons.” That quoted statement of hers sums up her reasoning and her mentality perfectly, just not exactly for the reasons most would think. She sees herself as strong and as his savior to help him face his demons. It's the old, and still far too common, problem most women who end up in abusive relationships have. The whole attraction to bad boys. Those bad boys that they fall for and are foolish enough to believe that they can fix them and turn them into the good guys they think they can be. Domestic violence victims, at least the women victims of domestic violence, don't leave, not because they do not know that they are being abused. They don't leave because they are still blinded by their ridiculous notion that their bad boy can be fixed just by the power of their love. So they stay and get abused in a variety of ways over and over again until they finally see their self imposed delusion for what it is, a delusion. Then and only then do they wake up and leave. What amazes me is that almost every female activist speaking out about domestic violence never brings up that common problem all female domestic violence victims have. The bottom line is abusive people be they male or female, always give clues to their true nature. The problem is people have to have their eyes open to see them. It easier that way then the victims themselves do not have to take responsibility for their choice of being with their abuser in the first place. Being blinded by the flashiness of and their own lust for bad boys is what gets female victims to fall for those types of men in the first place. So ladies, the solution is simple, just leave the bad boys alone. You can't change them, you cannot help them face their demons, and you cannot turn a bad boy into a good man. (2014)
