DaveAnglin (Baird Associates) -Did the breakwater have a core, or did you simply use large armour rock thoughout? Was sand leakage through the structures of concern? How was it addressed?
Reply by S P Herrington. The original design for the rock headlands did have a core, however, this was designed out as part of a value engineering exercise between Shepway District Council (the designer) and the appointed contractor (Van Oord). By eliminating an additional grading of rock allowed the placement operations to be streamlined as well as reducing the logistical problems of transporting and stockpiling an additional grading of rock.
