To protect high-strength concrete lining and polymer waterproofing gaskets of Lefortovsky tunnel under the Yauza River in Moscow from fire hazards a special fireprotection coating “Barrier” has been developed. As specified in performance requirements the coating is resistant to aggressive media as well as mechanical wear to withstand highpressure water cleaning. After 180 minutes fire tests of protective coating the temperature at the surface of concrete was not more than 90°C and on the surface of reinforcement bars 50°C. Coefficient of thermal conductivity of dry coating is 0.18–0.20 W/m°C, its strength is not less than 16.5 MPa (laboratory and in-situ tests), and vapour permeability 4 times exceeds a similar value of concrete segments. The coating was applied in layers over the mesh with spraying machines with specially designed nozzles. Average production rate in two-layer application amounted to 350 m2 per day.
