PAPER 4
Mr E.C.W. Perryman, Atomic Energy of Canada Ltd
Dr Hicks mentioned that the inter lattice tubes in the SGHWR have not been used. Does this mean that the calculations of void coefficient were unduly pessimistic or that control was easier than envisaged?
Could Dr Hicks give an opinion on the ability to control SGHWR with a fuel such as uranium metal having a considerably higher thermal diffusivity and hence a shorter time constant than U0£?
Could Mr OfDell give more justifica tion for his belief that long fuel elements are preferable to short? I cannot agree with the first few points he lists in favour of long elements. Some delegates may have experience of fuel failure produced by fission product gas pressure.
