SESSION 4
P. MURPHY, Wiltshier Construction (London) Ltd As a designer of temporary support works for a building contractor, the primary results that I am looking for are that we build a suitable support wall system, which is
(a) stable in itself and without risk of jeopardising the construction site
(b) adequate safety to uphold adjoining buildings and structures without risk of collapse or of unacceptable movements.
I would therefore be happy with any simple, quick method that would give me reasonable and workable solutions for the above.
Dr. Main noted that any assessment of settlements of adjoining buildings would require a reasonably sophisticated finite-element analysis.
