First page of Marvin Manheim: Founder of the World Conference on Transport Research Society and Spiritus Rector of the Integration of Human Resources and Technological Systems in Transport

Marvin L. Manheim was a most pro-active thinker, always trying to be some steps ahead of the present reality and to anticipate the most important drivers of future development. At the beginning of his outstanding academic career, when he worked at the MIT in Cambridge, MA, he focused on mobility and modelling the related decision processes underlying the movement of people in space and time. After his move to Northwestern University in Evanston, IL, he focused his research on the application of information technology and its importance for the development of global workflow processes. While it appears at the first look that he had converted to another field of research, a more careful analysis of the papers before and after this professional change reveals that the fundamentals of his research approach basically remained unchanged.
