For nearly 8 years, all rejected units and waste concrete have been recycled during daily production of structural precast prestressed components at several plants of the Addtek International Group. Extensive work has been carried out to establish the influence of different proportioning of recycled material on the properties of the fresh and hardened concrete. These include, consistency, compressive, flexural and tensile strength, shrinkage, modulus of elasticity, water absorption and freeze-thaw resistance. This paper describes the production method for recycled concrete aggregate, results of an experimental work undertaken, practical experience gained from the findings and the cost/benefits of recycling.
