The possibility of using RAC (Recycled Aggregate Concrete) for structural purposes in the pre-cast has been investigated during this research. Three 15.0 metres span prestressed beams made from RAC have been cast and tested. The concrete mixes used were one with 100% of Recycled Aggregate (RA), one with 100% of Natural Aggregate (NA) and one with 50% of Recycled Aggregate and 50% of Natural Aggregate. A total prestressing force of 132.5 tons has been applied to each beam. All beams were subjected to accelerated curing as is normal practice in the plant and the thermal cycle inside the beam has been recorded. The beams were loaded at third points and measurements were taken of load, middeflection, setting at the support and stresses in the wires. The strain level in the top part of the beam was also measured at discrete points with the use of strain gauges. The loaddeflection curves for the three beams have been plotted. Comment on the behaviour of the prestressed beams is included.
