Despite the amount of recyclable aggregate available and allowance made in the existing Danish Recommendations for the use of recycled concrete aggregate, the quantity of recycled aggregate used is very limited in Denmark. This is probably because there is not enough economic motivation for the use of recycled concrete aggregate and because its influence on concrete properties is not known to a sufficient extent.
However, it must be expected that the motivation for using recycled concrete aggregate will increase in the years to come. Politically, resource consumption is still an important area in relation to the latest proposal for a future environmental policy in Denmark.
The technological aspects, which have not previously been treated thoroughly, will beinvestigated in a major Danish research project, namely Green Concrete, which starts in 1998 and will run for four years.
