This paper deals mainly with the reuse of concrete debris in new concrete. First, the main barriers to the reuse of construction by-products are described. When the recycling of construction by-products is introduced, these barriers and respective countermeasures should be considered. Thereafter, the transition of the amount of production of cement and ready-mixed concrete in Japan has been explained, together with the amount of construction by-products generated and their reuse. The actual applications of the concrete debris, as a concrete aggregate are also discussed. In addition, activity of the Ministry of Construction and the Housing and Urban Development Public Corporation are explained. Other applications related to concrete debris, such as reuse of concrete fine powder, Eco-concrete, reuse of concrete washing water and sludge are discussed. This paper should provide an useful information on the current state of construction by products in Japan.
