Sir Alan Cockshaw

Sir Alan Cockshaw graduated in civil engineering from the University of Leeds, and spent his early career in both the public and private sectors. He joined Fairclough Civil Engineering in 1973 and was appointed Chief Executive 1978, becoming a member of the main board of the Fairclough Construction Group in 1981. In 1982 Fairclough acquired the Press Group and in so doing created the AMEC Group, where Sir Alan became Group Chief Executive in 1984. He was Chairman from 1988-1997 during a period of huge international expan-sion. In October 1998 he was appointed by the UK Government as Chairman of English Partnerships. Sir Alan is also the founding Chairman of PCS International Limited, and a member of the boards of several other companies. He has been involved in major company formations, acquisitions and disposals in many parts of the world. He is also a past president of the Institution of Civil Engineers.
