Afterword

This second collection of perspectives on excessive teacher/faculty entitlement draws together authors from nine countries to extend the insights developed in the first book assembled by Ratnam and Craig (2021). Overall, this volume represents a powerful guide to all who dare to study the extent to which their teaching displays excessive entitlement. Consider the following broad conclusions about our educational systems from two of the authors: “Excessive entitlement occurs at all levels in education and awareness is the first step towards understanding” (J. Ellett, this volume). “Schools are rule bound institutions where asymmetrical power ensures a firm divide between teacher and taught; the idea that a teacher acts autonomously in this hierarchical system needs to be critically engaged with” (J.
